Last weekend we attended the much-anticipated NHS Hack Day, where our Zesty Community Manager Ben Heubl mingled with some of the UK’s leading figures in the world of Health Tech.
NHS Hack Day is all about collaboration, innovation and using digital platforms to create simple solutions for complex problems. Hosted by St. George’s University of London Student Union, this year’s NHS Hack Day was a great success, with a wide variety of new and creative ideas generated over the two-day period.
Despite the sporadic weather, the impressive pitches delivered on Saturday morning lifted the energy and enthusiasm in the room. Each project addressed a different aspect of the NHS system, with ideas ranging from an indoor Google Map to help patients find their way around healthcare facilities to a pharmacist app for medication management.
A total of 12 exciting projects were presented on Sunday. The title of runner up was given to MatStats, a platform that provides vital statistics and visualises data for commissioning maternity services. This allows commissioners to make better decisions about the allocation of resources and conduct easy analyses to identify poor performing areas.
First place went to ProCL, a database for medical procedures that allows junior doctors to complete consent forms for inbound patients and help healthcare professionals and patients make better decisions regarding their treatment plan.
It’s been a pleasure sponsoring NHS Hack Day 2014 and being part of such an exciting event. Here at Zesty, we look forward to getting involved again in the future!
